TENS (The Episcopal Network for Stewardship) is an association of church leaders who understand, practice, and proclaim God's call to generosity. The mission of TENS is to transform lives by developing a network of church leaders who encourage generosity. We accomplish this mission by:
We invite individuals, congregations, dioceses, and other ministry programs (and judicatories) to join us and grow...
TENS is a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation. All gifts are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Why TENS? During the mid-1980s there was a large and well¬-staffed Stewardship office at The Episcopal Church Center in New York. By the mid-1990s, only two professionals and a shared support person remained. It was against the backdrop of this highly successful but shrinking national program that TENS was formed. TENS grew out of a deep desire by many who had experienced a radical transformation in their personal relation¬ship to God through a Stewardship ministry experience, and who wanted to see Stewardship resources continue to evolve and be available to the greater Church. Day-to-day Operations Tom Gossen, Executive Director since TENS’ incep¬tion in 1996, has the overall responsibility for TENS. His experience includes Stewardship ministries at the local, di¬ocesan and national levels since 1990. Tom also served on the Episcopal Church’s Standing Commission on Steward¬ship and Development (1998 - 2003), as its Co-Chairman from 2001 - 2003, and has continued his work as liaison to the Commission from the Executive Council of The Episcopal Church since his election by the 2003 General Convention. Tom (along with members of TENS’ Board of Directors) works directly in or consults with the whole spectrum of Stewardship ministries. Ann Elizabeth Bishop has served as Office Administrator since 1997. She has been involved in Stewardship on a parish or diocesan level for 24 years. Her responsibilities include managing the membership database, editing and production of resources, filling orders, and coordinating registrations and materials for TENS’ events. What can TENS offer you? TENS offers print, electronic, audio and video resources, coordinates (or provides speakers for) retreats, and mentors diocesan and parish leadership. TENS provides education and conferences at the par¬ish, diocesan, regional, national or international level -- all designed to train, encourage, nurture and support transformative, generous leadership and action. The ministry of TENS is international. There is at least one major annual conference event, as well as many consultations with leadership teams within their own dioceses and congregations occurring throughout the year. Many of TENS’ resources can be accessed on the Internet as well as by contacting the TENS office. TENS also publishes a newsletter, Networking, six times a year. Resources to assist congregation and diocesan leaders are developed and published regularly, and made available in print, electronic or other forms. Members of TENS include: How can you participate? We invite you to join TENS and grow in the understanding of Christian Stewardship theology, develop skills in teaching it, support one another, and be transformed from fear and selfishness to love and generosity.
